Shanghai Masters: Novak Djokovic beaten by Stefanos Tsitsipas in quarter-finals

It is a mark of how disappointing a year this has been for Zverev that his quarter-final victory over Roger Federer on Friday was the first time in 2019 that he had beaten another player in the top ten.

Daniil Medvedev of Russian Federation keeps his eyes on the ball as he plays against Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece in their men's singles semi-finals match at the Shanghai Masters tennis tournament at Qizhong Forest Sports City Tennis Center in Shanghai on Saturday.

"The most important thing is to keep it going as long as I can".

However, the head to head record for Medvedev is less positive against his opponent in Sunday's final, Alexander Zverev, but this is a classic case of a meaningless head to head series. I felt like I've played some decent tennis this week and being in a Masters 1000 final here in Shanghai is also something very special for me.

But Tsitsipas showed admirable resilience to fight back and win the second set 7-5.

"Every loss, I learn from", said Medvedev. Now even more. But I think he is happy, we started when I was not that good, he saw me growing quickly, we are good friends and I have a good relationship with my team.

The 23-year-old Russian Medvedev embellished his fast-growing reputation with a fifth victory in as many matches against Tsitsipas, 21.

Medvedev's frustration got the better of him when Pospisil led 4-2, 40-30 in the first set, which led to him smashing his racket repeatedly into the ground at the baseline. It's quite not enough for me to perceive that there is sufficient pre-match value though.

Despite missing a chance to serve out the match at 5-4, Medvedev rallied to a second break and completed the contest in 1 hour 36 minutes.

The 38-year-old Federer is third in the world, while Nadal and Djokovic divvied up all four Grand Slams between them this year.

The Greek Tsitsipas dumped out reigning champion Djokovic, who until that point had looked imperious in Shanghai and did not drop a set in winning the Tokyo title last week.

For much of the last decade, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic have dominated the tennis world.

"I wish him (Berrettini) nothing but the best to qualify for London as well as me", Zverev said. Tsitsipas takes on U.S. Open runner-up Daniil Medvedev, who overcame Italy's Fabio Fognini 6-3 7-6 (4).
