The emotional episode featured a funeral for the character and a cameo by Perry's close friend Shannen Doherty, whom he starred opposite in the hit 90s show "Beverly Hills 90210". It hurts me that I never got to say goodbye, that I won't ever get to see him again or talk to him. Fans have been waiting to watch this episode for a long time, and now it's finally here!
Riverdale season four premieres on Netflix today. AS effectively we all know that this yr, Luke Perry, who performs Fred Andrews on this present, tragically handed away from a stroke. In July, Doherty shared photos of herself with Perry on Instagram and wrote, "I am deeply honored to pay tribute to Luke on Riverdale". I am hoping you worship it, Luke. "Beautiful cinematography and the acting was great! And it's like, there's so much baroque storytelling on Riverdale and there was such a truth and simplicity to that story that it was nice that that was a thing we could go back to".
The news was explained to Archie (KJ Apa), Perry's on-screen son, by new sheriff FP Jones (Skeet Ulrich). "[It was] literally nearly impossible to utter lines", the actor revealed. We've been having a lot of fun with Mary back to Riverdale ... she's moving from Chicago, not quite aware of what a rough town Riverdale is... "It meant reliving something incredibly painful". There was no elaborate scheme to partake in or compelling mystery to solve - just a town and a show that came together to honor someone who was a major part of Riverdale's very fabric.
Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa chose to wait for season four before addressing Andrews' loss, E News reported.
"Very early on, we landed on the idea that Fred should have a heroic death, and that that would be impactful for Archie". After that we really said that this episode really isn't going to launch any huge stories for the season; it was really going to be kind of focused on that, and the kind of emotional effects of that passing for everyone.
With a befitting tribute, "Riverdale" has brought to a bittersweet conclusion Perry's legacy on television, where his absence will be felt whether you knew him best Fred Andrews or Dylan McKay.
He then went on to discuss how the show will change without Luke's portrayal of Fred Andrews.
"It did suggest a path for Archie, which is about growing up a little more quickly than he would have and giving senior year this nearly melancholy feel", Aguirre-Sacasa said.
The truth is, something like [his father's death], Archie will be wrestling with it for the rest of his life, other characters less so. But for the person who's at the core of it, they live with it every day.
