While many USA corporate media outlets reached their own conclusion on Epstein's August 10 death based off New York Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Barbara Sampson's review, longtime New York City forensic pathologic Dr. Michael Baden disagreed and offered pertinent details about Epstein's death and his view of Sampson's determination.
Fractured hyoid bones have been a subject of scrutiny long before the Epstein case, as the indication of neck trauma has been associated with both strangulation and hanging.
Baden was in the room for the autopsy, but he cautioned that his observations weren't conclusive.
In a statement issued Wednesday, coroner Dr. Barbara Sampson reiterated her determination than Epstein, the millionaire accused of luring underage girls to his home for sex, killed himself inside his Metropolitan Correctional Center cell in August.
"The investigation is not completed until all the information has come in", he said. The financier counted a number of high-profile politicians, entertainers, and business executives as his friends.
"The prominent hemorrhage in the soft tissues of the neck next to the fractures is evidence of a fresh neck compression that could have caused the death", he told Fox.
This, Baden said, was "extremely unlikely". Baden's comments suggest Epstein's family might contest the autopsy results in future legal proceedings.
"Whoever it is would have their DNA all over the ligature".
Other experts have said injuries to the hyoid bone do happen in suicidal hangings, and while not common are more likely to happen in hangings involving older people.
He added that Epstein's lawyers said he was in a "good mood" just before his death and that he was helping with his case, including working toward being released on bail.
Baden, a regular Fox commentator and private examiner, has examined more than 20,000 bodies, hosted the show "Autopsy" on HBO, and examined the details of multiple high-profile deaths.
CNN's Sanjay Gupta said the Post had, despite the apparent angle of their report, presented results "more consistent with a suicidal hanging than a strangulation".
