You'll have another fast food breakfast option to add to your list now that Wendy's announced it will launch breakfast menus across all their restaurants. A spokesperson told CNN Business that Wendy's plans to offer more than that, including seasoned potatoes and croissant sandwiches. The chain's sales at U.S. stores open at least a year jumped 2.4% in the first quarter, thanks to higher-priced espressos and frozen drinks, as well as strong demand for its breakfast sandwich value deals.
The Dublin, Ohio-based chain, which has attempted breakfast in the past, announced September 9 it plans to expand morning meal offerings nationwide. Next year all stores will be offering breakfast sandwiches, coffee and more.
Wendy's said it plans to take some of its signature items and adapt them for breakfast consumers, including a Frosty cappuccino called the "Frosty-ccino" and a Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit.
It certainly looks like Wendy's plans to be a major player in the competition for your breakfast buck.
Breakfast is serious business in the hyper-competitive world of fast food. Its motto was "Only Wendy's has breakfast like we do". This time the company says it will be different.
"Launching breakfast in our US restaurants nationwide provides incredible growth opportunities", said Todd Penegor, President and CEO of The Wendy's Company, in a press release.
"We are well-positioned to pursue it", said Todd Penegor, President and CEO of The Wendy's Company, in a press release on Monday.
The upcoming menu addition also means Wendy's will add to its worker roster by hiring 20,000 crew members across the country. Taco Bell recently introduced three new breakfast combos to their menu while the likes of Burger King and White Castle have gotten creative in their marketing strategy with a $5 coffee subscription and a trip to Belgium.
"In-home breakfast declined eight meals per capita between 2015 and 2018 and foodservice gained two breakfast meals per capita during the period", the report noted.
According to the food blog, Wendy's breakfast had already gone through several trial runs on a smaller scale by 2012, but the chain was "still not getting the results they want to go nationally yet".
