American Idol contestant Haley Smith, 26, dies in motorcycle crash in Maine

Former "American Idol" contestant Haley Smith died in a motorcycle accident Saturday morning, according to reports.

The singer passed away in Millinocket, Maine after crashing her motocrycle in a one-vehicle crash.

The website reported that she appeared to have crashed after she failed to make a sharp turn on a road that turns from residential to a highway in certain parts. An investigation into the crash is pending.

In a pre-recorded interview airing before her American Idol audition, Haley, then 18, described herself as a vegetarian who "worked in the meat department" as a nature lover, saying, "It's where I feel more at peace, you could say". I definitely love being outdoors.

Haley's time on "AI" was relatively brief in 2012, when she auditioned in Colorado during season 11.

"We are sorry to hear of the passing of Haley Smith and our thoughts and prayers are with her family", a rep for American Idol said in a statement to EW. Her circle of relatives instructed TMZ that they have been having a look ahead to celebrating the birthday along with her. ("I am honored to be here listening to your voice", Tyler gushed.) All three judges said yes to sending her to Hollywood, but Smith was later eliminated during the Hollywood rounds.
