Instant grades and reactions Portland Trail Blazers confuse everybody by trading for Hassan Whiteside

The Heat have actually been looking to trade Whiteside for the past several seasons, and Whiteside reportedly wanted a trade after opting in to a $27 million contract earlier this month.

Hassan Whiteside is heading to the Portland Trail Blazers, as the Miami Heat continue reshaping their roster.

As all of the attention has been on Kawhi Leonard and rightfully so, Jimmy Butler is a potential option if the Lakers do not want to split up their $32 million in cap space.

Whiteside, 30, has career averages of 13.4 points and 11.4 rebounds in parts of seven National Basketball Association seasons, all with Miami, except for 19 games with the Sacramento Kings from 2010 to 2012.

In those 60 games with Portland, Harkless posted averages of 7.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists in less than 24 minutes per game.

This trade seemingly worked out for both sides.

Leonard and Harkless will fill the roles played by Kelly Olynyk and Derrick Jones who will reportedly be sent to Dallas as part of the Butler deal. "Blazers offseason: Whiteside, Kent Bazemore, retain Rodney Hood and draft Nassir Little".

Leonard had a 30-point game in Portland's final game last season, the one where the Trail Blazers were swept out of the Western Conference finals by the Golden State Warriors. He led the league in blocked shots the year before that at 3.7 per game and remains a consistent scoring presence in the paint as well, at 12.3 points per game last year.

Via Twitter, Blazers guard CJ McCollum gave a farewell message of sorts to Leonard and Harkless, writing: "Gonna miss y'all man @moe_harkless @MeyersLeonard11".
