Conditions on reserve day played spoilsport for India, feels Kris Srikkanth

India vs New Zealand Semi-Final World Cup Head To Head Match Stats

India and New Zealand meet up improbably in the World Cup 2019 semi-final

Interestingly enough, it seems every time ICC has pushed a match to a reserve day, India is one of the two teams that suffers.

In a unique contest that spanned two days due to rain, the odds had been in India's favour throughout New Zealand's innings on Tuesday.

New Zealand finished fourth in the league stage, and had entered the semi-finals on the back of losses against Pakistan, Australia and England - but their bowling stepped up to dismiss India for 221 while defending 239.

New Zealand lean on Williamson, Taylor New Zealand captain Kane Williamson led by example in their win over India. He went on to say that if the rain had not disrupted the match on the previous, we might have had a different result.

India made 38 runs in 8.4 overs when it started raining again and the match could not be taken forward.

As of now, India has lost six wickets with Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni are trying to stabilise the innings.

A day earlier Guptill was becoming an online meme when TV cameras caught his sullen face looking out over the ground from the players' pavilion following another failure at the tournament.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, three top order batsmen scored only one run before losing their wicket in this high tense match.

On the reserve day on Wednesday, New Zealand added 28 more runs to their overnight score to finish at 239 for eight, a total which India found hard to chase following a top-order collapse under overcast conditions.

"We had a good day yesterday and I'm very proud of that effort".

The game was always running against them from that point, and while India did well to stay in the tie until the final few overs, it would've needed a monumental comeback to recover.

"We thought we had restricted them to a total that is chaseable on any surface", Kohli said.

"The faith that the fans had for Dhoni was remarkable but we have seen the last of him in a World Cup, I can't imagine him playing the next one", said Test Match Special commentator Prakash Wakankar.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar took two wickets in the penultimate over to finish with a three-wicket haul.
