China welcomes DPRK, US, South Korea leaders' meeting at DMZ

UN chief welcomes Trump-Kim meeting

Trump praises Sunday talks with Kim Jong Un, hopes to meet again "soon"

Both leaders met at the Freedom House on the South Korean side in the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).

Thae's observations about the recent Panmunjom summit comes at a time when South Korean President Moon Jae-in says the meeting was a significant development. Trump suggested that not signing a bad agreement constituted a victory, but given what the world was expecting from the Hanoi summit, he may have undermined his own position at the negotiating table.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson defended President Trump's brief meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and sparked some controversy of his own with his commentary this weekend.

According to Trump, the historic visit was a spontaneous move.

The pressure campaign evolved not like the Trump-Kim lovefest, but to what seemed like the brink of war.

President Trump had kind words for Kim as he described the DMZ crossing and how Kim asked him to walk over into North Korea.

The two leaders agreed to "resume and push forward productive dialogues for making a new breakthrough in the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula", the official Korean Central News Agency said.

Eric Trump compared an image of his father at the border with Kim to one of Obama, supposedly taken in 2008, at a much more heavily fortified location.

North Korea's former top nuclear negotiator Kim Yong-chol reportedly displayed an arrogant attitude towards U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and his aides during previous denuclearization talks.

The impromptu meeting in the DMZ - where the U.S. president said they agreed to resume working-level talks within weeks on the North's nuclear programme - was full of symbolism.

That was exacerbated this week by Tokyo's restriction of high-tech exports to South Korea amid the dispute over South Korea's court rulings against Japanese firms to compensate the Korean victims of Japan's forced labor during Japanese colonial rule. On the one hand, it's the U.S. that wants North Korea to give up its nukes to support sanction relief at the same time, North Korea wants the sanction relief first, and then it will consider denuclearisation.

Moon should establish positive relations with Kim and support Trump's efforts to achieve denuclearization. Moon's government has also said it hopes the diplomatic momentum created by the latest Trump-Kim meeting would help revive inter-Korean dialogue and engagement that stopped amid an impasse in nuclear negotiations between Washington and Pyongyang.

The United States is losing quite a lot of its diplomatic influence in the global community because of its trade war with China and diplomatic friction with Iran. Reagan touched the Germans by saying "Tear down this wall" to Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev. North Korea wouldn't be able to make any more nuclear weapons, and they'd have to be more transparent about where they make their weapons.
