Authorities say a man who stole a vehicle with three young children inside was fatally beaten by their father and other men. ABC 6 Philadelphia noted that the mother could potentially face charges for leaving her kids in a running vehicle. She left the vehicle running with her 7-month-old and 1 and 5-year-olds still on the inside while she went to see their father, who works at the restaurant.

The children's father chased the vehicle down, and according to police he pulled the suspect from the auto and started attacking the man.

The carjacker then fled on foot, but the father caught up with him and a physical confrontation ensued.

According to The Philadelphia Enquirer, police sources identified the alleged carjacker as as Eric Hood from North Philadelphia. They pulled him out of the vehicle and he assaulted the father and tried to flee. The parents chased down the vehicle on foot and pulled the carjacker out of the auto when he got caught in traffic, police said.

District Attorney Larry Krasner told local media it was too early to comment on any potential charges, but authorities are using footage from a nearby surveillance camera to search for the other men involved in the beating. He only got about a half block away before dad ran him down again. Paramedics rushed him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the investigation is active and ongoing with Homicide Division and no arrests have been made at this time.

"The woman and her boyfriend were both taken into custody for questioning".
