According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, deputies were conducting a traffic stop in Punta Gorda when the freakish incident took place.

The couple reportedly told the police that they were just collecting snakes and frogs from under an overpass, and when the deputies asked if they could search some bags in their truck, Clemons gave them permission to do so.

They didn't find anything in Clemons' bags except for clothes and other personal items. Then it was Marchan-Le Quire's turn.

The 41 three-striped turtles that were allegedly hidden in a backpack on the floor of a truck.

She then pulled the one-foot alligator from her pants.

This is, of course, reenacted in a deeply charming way by NBC2's local news segment on the story, where someone actually tries to stuff a toy gator into a pair of yoga trousers.

However, officers clearly saw the amusing side of the unusual situation, sharing a hilarious post to Facebook on Monday. When cops asked if the pair had anything else, the woman allegedly whipped out a 12-inch-long alligator from her yoga trousers.

NBC Miami called the incident an "only in Florida" moment.

Clemons and Le Quire consented.

That's when the woman revealed the small one foot gator. The alligator was about one foot long.

A spokesperson for the state agency did not immediately respond to ABC News' request for comment Tuesday morning.
