It took all of one game for the National Basketball Association playoffs to experience its first upset, with the visiting Brooklyn Nets stunning the Philadelphia 76ers 111-102 on Saturday.

Embiid has not played since April 6 due to a knee issue, which had the Philadelphia 76ers saying they were unsure if he would be available for Game 1 of their first round series against the Brooklyn Nets.

However, one of the biggest talking points actually happened on the sideline.

Simmons had nine points, seven rebounds and three assists, while Joel Embiid - who struggled with knee soreness and played limited minutes - had 22 points and 15 rebounds. "[The team is] going to do whatever they can as far as getting me ready and healthy, but if my body doesn't respond based on the pain level, there's really nothing you can do".

The 76ers' miserable outing was capped off when they fined the inactive Amir Johnson an undisclosed amount for the "distraction" he caused for showing Embiid a text message on the bench late in the game.

Brown said he would deal with Johnson, but he declined to address any specific discipline.

Game 2 is Monday at 8:00 p.m. EST from Philadelphia as the 76ers look to bounce back.

In addition, head coach Brett Brown said Embiid would not practice.

The Sixers were without Embiid to start their first-round series against the Miami Heat a year ago, too, as he recovered from a facial injury.

"I mean I'm always putting it on me to help him".

Philadelphia: City of Brotherly boos.

When the 76ers made the trade to acquire Jimmy Butler earlier this season, it was with the playoffs in mind.

Joel Embiid went 0-for-5, while Tobias Harris and Jonathon Simmons missed both of their 3-point attempts.

"We think he's the right leader to take us where we need to go in the playoffs", Harris said.
