If Star Wars fans were looking for a reason to sign up to Disney +, The Mandalorian - along with the upcoming Cassian Andor series - seems the most compelling case so far.

In a land where everything must fit authentically within the Star Wars universe, selling regular Coca-Cola packaged products was a no go.

The show is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order, per Favreau's description.

Jon Favreau announced on Instagram that the plot of The Mandalorian would focus on a "lone gunfighter" who operates in the far reaches of the galaxy, outside of the New Republic's reach.

Scheduled to appear on stage will be showrunner and series overlord Jon Favreau, who has become quite the fixture at Disney. This "nefarious" - his word - individual is the head of a guild of bounty hunters and the man who sends Pedro Pascal's Mandalorian on a mission to retrieve an item of high value. "Some might say he has questionable moral character, in line with some of our best Westerns, and some good samurai [films.] And he's a badass..."

Another thing we know already is that Favreau is unleashing some heavy-duty, deep-dive nostalgia. It's confirmed that classic bounty hunter IG-88 will be on hand, as will the original Stormtroopers.

The series premieres on the Disney+ streaming service when it launches November 12.

You'll be able to stream the panel from the Star Wars YouTube channel at 1:30 p.m. PT, and we'll embed the livestream video here as soon as its available.

A bunch of new characters are being added to lore, he adds, but "for those who've been fans for 40 years, there's a lot in there for you".

Former mixed martial artist Gina Carano co-stars as Cara Dune, an ex-Rebel shock trooper.

The original Tantive IV set as released in 2001, making it one of the earliest big Star Wars sets, and was followed by a more detailed re-release in 2009 to celebrate the theme's 10th anniversary. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story's Diego Luna is set to reprise his role as Cassian Andor in a live-action prequel series to the 2016 film.
