And in January, a six-part documentary called Surviving R. Kelly was released.
R. Kelly is back on the streets.
Although he is free, R. Kelly still faces 10 felony counts of sexual abuse of three minors and another woman who says he forced her to have oral sex against her will.
Kelly was jailed Wednesday on a civil contempt charge after a hearing in domestic relations court, where he had been ordered to pay $161,663 by a judge presiding over his divorce case.
The singer had been prepared to pay up to $60,000 of what he owed to his former wife, Andrea Kelly, and their three children, but the judge had required the full amount and ordered him detained.
Previously, news surfaced noting that R. Kelly was released from jail after paying $161,000 in owed child support payments. A spokesperson for the Cook County Sheriff's Office told ET at the time that the singer was released from Cook County Jail late last month after $100,000 was posted. "That is all I can say right now", the 52-year-old singer said, before adding, "I love my fans", and dashing off.
"[I did] lots of things wrong when it comes to women, but I apologized in those relationships", Kelly said.
The performer's time in jail was his second in a matter of weeks. Instead, he claimed others "connected" to his bank account had stolen the money he earned after selling tens of millions of records. He has also very publicly proclaimed his innocence, telling Gayle King in an interview that aired this past week on CBS This Morning that all his accusers were lying about him. "I don't think he's done anything inappropriate for years". How can I get paid? He paid it religiously until he couldn't make any more money because of all of these statements that are being made and frankly, because of the charges.
