‘Dark Phoenix’: Latest Instalment In ‘X-Men’ Franchise Scores New Trailer

"Dark Phoenix" arrives in cinemas June 7th.

Empire spoke to Kinberg and producer Hutch Parker to break down the new trailer, which zones in on Jean Grey's epic, cosmic, inner conflict. Jean asks out loud while sitting slumped in an alleyway, her hair and clothes soaked with rain. "And if you stop fighting that force inside you, if you embrace it, you will posses the very power of a god". It had to feel really personal for the X-Men, and I wanted it to be something that would fracture the X-Men as well.

The rest of the X-Men squad are terrified of the possibility of Jean assuming her final Dark Phoenix form, since they've already gotten a taste of what she can do when she merely dips her toes into the darkness of Phoenix. Considering that Disney will soon be acquiring 21st Century Fox, this possibly could be the last X-Men movie before its characters get sucked into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "One that at times is the mentor, at times feels nearly maternal, at times is friendly". Charles Xavier, played by James McAvoy, admits that she might kill them all and he doesn't know what to do.

The trailer comes on the heels of the release of a brand new poster release for the film.

Aside from seeing a fully bald Professor X and seeing Beast, well, unleash the beast, the latest trailer is an absolute doozy as it shows all of Jean's devastating powers. "She goes from controlling the voices in her head to hearing every voice in the world".

That force is confirmed to be the Phoenix Force from the comics. That confrontation and the resulting damage has the potential for much more power than simply watching Phoenix destroy structures around her.

From there, we see Jean/Phoenix struggling to find the balance between the dark side and the light. "Every character is challenged in their relationship to Jean", says Parker. Many of you seemed to be fairly uninspired by the trailer, but personally, I was a bit shocked by how much they were willing to reveal in the trailer.

It is unclear what turns Grey against her former allies, but it may have something to do with the malevolent influence of Jessica Chastain, playing Shi-ar alien empress Lilandra. Here though, evil Jessica Chastain is whispering in Jean's ear and luring her to do bad things.

What did you think of the new trailer? "Or are you the most powerful creature on the planet?" This film intends to set that right. The X-Men are going out on a sad, whimpering note. She was my friend'. Is there an additional enemy at play?

"The thought process behind that was to primarily show that this is a movie that is unlike other X-Men movies".

Does dropping this spoiler help Dark Phoenix's case to lure an audience and make money, though?
