Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has previously said that he wouldn't bring legislation to a vote in the Senate that the president wouldn't sign. Kamala Harris D-Calif., Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., and Cory Booker, D-N.J.

But, noting that the Green New Deal is extremely popular among the US public-with one survey showing that 57 percent of Republican voters and 81 percent of Americans overall support the ambitious idea-Markey concluded that "Republicans, climate deniers, and the fossil fuel industry are going to end up on the wrong side of history".

Spearheaded by Ocasio-Cortez, of NY, and Democratic Sen.

"I really don't like their policy of taking away your vehicle, of taking away your airplane rights", President Donald Trump said at a rally in El Paso, Texas, on Monday, referring to the memo. By rushing a vote on the #GreenNewDeal resolution, Republicans want to avoid a true national debate & kill our efforts to organize. "We can't let Republicans sabotage it".

"I would just say that it's going to be crucially important for us to recognize and understand when we outlaw plane travel, we outlaw gasoline, we outlaw cars, I think actually probably the entire USA military, because of the Green New Deal, that we are able to explain to our constituents and to people all across this country what that really means", Cheney said.

When confronted with the multi-billion-dollar price tag most experts place on the proposal, its allies have argued that climate change is an existential threat that necessitates a national mobilization effort unseen since World World War II.

Republicans showed on Tuesday that they are ready to use the resolution as a political weapon against those Democrats. However, it's received far less support and more pause from moderate Democrats while receiving criticism from Republicans.

Ocasio-Cortez issued her own rebuke hours later.

Trent, the spokesman for Ocasio-Cortez, predicted the Green New Deal gambit would backfire on Republicans. Schumer said. "What are they going to put forward?"

The Green New Deal House resolution introduced last week calls for the elimination of USA greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 through massive investments in clean energy sources and millions of jobs.

"The resolution will surely be opposed by some Democratic centrists", he concluded. The legislation is a nonbinding resolution that is meant to outline a plan to massively curtail carbon emissions while undertaking sweeping economic changes to boost jobs and worker rights.
