Oscars 2019: Olivia Colman wins Best Actress for The Favourite

The 45-year-old actress starred in The Favourite and gave a fan favorite performance in the period-piece comedy.

Colman has previously spoken about taking a job as a secretary ("not a very good one") and a cleaner, a job she says she received incredible satisfaction from doing. In the series Olivia played Sophie, Mark's on-and-off love interest, and now both David Mitchell and Robert Webb have taken to social media to express their delight in their former co-star's win.

"I would like to tell you how much this film meant to me, but I can't thinking of it cause I'm too excited", she joked. That's awesome! And what a brilliant speech'. I always figured it would have been Super Hans'.

Best Actor and Best Actress feel equally contested, with camps torn between Glenn Close and Olivia Colman, as well as Bradley Cooper and Rami Malek. This is hilarious, I've got an Oscar.

"To be in this category, with these extraordinary women and Glenn Close - you are my idol and this is not how I wanted it to be".

"Yorgos, my best director and my best film, and Emily and Rachel the two best women in the world to fall in love with - you can imagine it wasn't a hardship. I'm not... thank you so much".

"It's genuinely quite stressful", Colman said of winning as she cried.

"OK, I have to thank lots of people, if by the way I forget anybody I'm going to find you later and I'm going to give you all a massive snog and I'm really sorry if I might forget now. Because this is not going to happen again". After gaining some composure, she noted, "My kids are at home and watching - well if you're not then, well, kind of well done". And any little girl who's practicing her speech on the telly, you never know.

The film earned Colman the best actress award at the 2019 Golden Globes last month.

"Well, if you're not [watching], then, well done, but I sort of hope you are", she said".
