Attorneys for "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett say there are no plans for him to meet with Chicago detectives Monday for a follow-up interview about his reported assault.

"Smollett's attorneys will keep an active dialogue going with Chicago police on his behalf", the statement continued. Smollett, who according to The Daily Mail landed after a flight from New York City around midnight, said he was out walking at 2 get a sandwich from Subway when two men attacked him, poured a chemical on him, put a noose around his neck, and shouted racial and homophobic slurs. As they fled the scene the men yelled, "This is MAGA country!" according to Smollett.

"We can confirm that the information received from the individuals questioned by police earlier in the Empire case has in fact shifted the trajectory of the investigation", spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement to the press.

Smollett's attorneys said Saturday that he would continue to cooperate with police but that he felt victimized by the suggestion he played a role in his attack. If they find, based on the evidence presented, that it has, they can issue an indictment for the crime, known as a "true bill".

Late Friday, police released two Nigerian brothers they had detained for questioning earlier in the week, without charges.

Pamela Sharp, a spokeswoman for Smollett, said Sunday there were no updates "as of now".

Don't you think it unusual that Smollett had a phone with him, yet didn't call the police on that phone to inform them what had happened and which way his attackers had fled?

"Empire" actor Jussie Smollett and HBO's John Oliver are the latest celebrity activists to be publicly mocked in Los Angeles by conservative artists.

CBS News is reporting that they have sources who claim Smollett orchestrated the attack with the two men who were arrested in connection with the case on Wednesday and released on Friday without charges.

"We're not confirming, denying or commenting on anything until we can talk to him and we can corroborate some information that we've gotten", he said.

The brothers showed up at the location on January 29 but were nervous because a vehicle drove by just as they pounced on Smollett.

Following the attack, multiple sources reported that the perpetrators were wearing "Make America Great Again" hats, the actor told Good Morning America's Robin Roberts that there was no reason to add fabrications to the "racist sundae". Smollett did not originally call the police, but when he did, he was less than cooperative and did not hand over his phone.
