Legendary Fashion Designer Karl Lagerfeld Dies In Paris At 85 Years Old

Karl Lagerfeld held the position of creative director at Chanel for more than 30 years, and produced as many as eight collections a year for the French fashion house which was founded by Coco Chanel. A spokesman for the fashion brand was not immediately available for comment.

After cutting his teeth at Paris-based label Chloe, Lagerfeld consolidated his reputation in the 1980s when he revived the flagging fortunes of the storied Paris haute couture label Chanel.

Lagerfeld began working for Chanel back in 1983.

Known to adore Diet Coke, Lagerfeld said he shed weight in the early 2000s to fit into the razor-thin suits brought in by Christian Dior's then menswear designer Hedi Slimane. He also dismissed the #MeToo movement as a whole: "I'm fed up with it".

Tributes have been paid to Karl Lagerfeld, who's died at the age of 85 after a period of ill-health. Like Warhol, Lagerfeld had an instinct about his own image. I wish I could give you one last hug. Karl Lagerfeld was truly an icon in the fashion world.

Karl Otto Lagerfeld was born in the 1933 in the northern port city Hamburg, the son of a rich industrialist in the food sector. She has cited reading, music, art, the theatre and spending time with her partner and teenage son as her favourite things to do - a quiet and peaceful world away from the razzmatazz that comes with a Chanel fashion show.

A true craftsman who combined artistic instinct, business acumen and commensurate ego, Lagerfeld was known for his strikingly visual fashion show displays and extravagant outfits. Finally, one can not refer to Karl Lagerfeld without mentioning his innate sense of repartee and self-mockery. But the swift succession announcement suggests that Chanel may follow the model of Alexander McQueen, where McQueen's closest colleague, Sarah Burton, took the creative reigns when he died in 2010 and has kept his legacy alive in her own inimitable way.

"I did my first campaign for [Chanel] when I was 15, which was insane", Depp told V, according to W magazine.

For his debut collection for the house, Lagerfeld injected a dose of raciness, sending out a translucent navy chiffon number that prompted scandalised headlines.

In a February 2017 interview with WSJ Magazine, Lagerfeld said, "I knew Trump before, when he was not in politics". Your girls love you so much.

"It's not that I lie, it's that I don't owe the truth to anyone", he told French Vogue.

"My problem as a child was that I was bored to death because I wanted to be a grown-up person", he said in a 2011 interview with the U.K.'s Independent newspaper.
