The Knicks included a picture of Durant standing next to rookie Mitchell Robinson as part of a pitch for season-ticket holders to renew for next season.

Rumors around the league suggests the Knicks front office are not only gunning for Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant, but are nearly sure that they will sign him in free agency.

The Knicks said in a statement to the New York Daily News the image was one of "several rotating photos on the website".

The Atlanta Hawks were fined for tampering in 2013 when an email to season-ticket holders mentioned "players who are now under contract to other teams but who will become free agents [in the] summer".

It wasn't lost on beat reporters for the Warriors that, in the immediate wake of the trade, Durant stopped speaking with the media.

Solidifying such a notion, the Knicks recently traded away superstar big man and franchise cornerstone, Kristaps Porzingis, while trading the Latvian unicorn to the Dallas Mavericks. I still got to talk to him a lot.

"I come here every day and [you reporters] ask me about free agency, ask my teammates, my coaches and you rile up the fans about it. Let us play basketball".

Upon realizing Durant was in the photo, the team took it down as a precaution, they said in a statement - even though it was one of many used on its website.

The Knicks have been one of the worst teams in the National Basketball Association this season and will enter their matchup Monday against the Cavaliers with a 10-45 record. The players were Dwight Howard and Chris Paul.
