One of Florida's most beloved former Gators is off the market.
The Heisman Trophy victor announced his engagement on Instagram on Thursday to Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, a South Africa native and the 2017 Miss Universe.
Nel-Peters received her bachelor's degree in business management from North-West University in South Africa. "I'm really blessed to have her by my side for the rest of my life".
Tebow, an ESPN college football analyst, told People magazine in 2017 that he was ready to get married. In her caption she said, "Any dream I've ever had, you've exceeded them all!" Tebow also enlisted South African singer Matthew Mole to serenade them with a surprise rendition of "The Wedding Song". Nel-Peters wrote to her future husband online.
Tebow, who has become known for his strong Christian faith, told People in 2017 the difficulties of finding a life-partner. "But I wasn't nervous to actually ask her".
After the proposal, Nel-Peters gushed about her upcoming nuptials saying, "I'm so excited for the wedding, and I can't wait to spend forever with Tim".
She eventually went on to win Miss Universe in November, becoming just the second titleholder from South Africa. "She's just flawless for me", he told People following his engagement. "I was excited. I wanted everything to be ideal and to go smoothly".
Tebow, 31, is property of the New York Mets baseball team and spent last season in the minors at Class AA Binghamton.
