Not that anyone needed a real-world example of what can go wrong when you take up the Bird Box challenge, but a Utah teen reportedly has crashed her vehicle after trying to channel her inner Malorie Hayes.
Police suspect that a recent viral challenge inspired by the popular Netflix horror movie Bird Box was responsible for a auto accident on Monday.
Layton Police tweeted two photos of the crash, which they said occurred Monday.
Earlier this month, Netflix warned its viewers against the "Bird Box" challenge.
The driver veered into oncoming traffic and struck a passenger auto.
Of course, if you've seen Bird Box, you know there's a scene in which several characters make a white-knuckle drive in a auto with the windows covered, and it's hardly a smooth ride. "The stakes are just so high and it's just such a potentially risky thing as it is: to try and do it in that way is inexcusable".
'Can't believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE.
Initially, police were told the crash was caused by the driver getting distracted while she talked to her 16-year-old male passenger, Lyman said.
Authorities are asking the city attorney to charge the teen girl with misdemeanor reckless driving, the Standard-Examiner reported.
