As the saying goes, the show must go on, but it will likely be a rough one for Brennin Hunt.
The rest of the cast joined in for the musical's major numbers, and as it came to a close, the episode faded to black and then came back up on the set, only now the entire cast - mostly out of costume - stood together on stage with a message for those watching at home.
Top L-R to Bottom L-R: Brandon Victor Dixon as Tom Collins, Valentina as Angel Dumont Schunard, Jordan Fisher as Mark Cohen, Mario as Benjamin Coffin III, Kiersey Clemons as Joanne Jefferson, Vanessa Hudgens as Maureen Johnson, Brennin Hunt as Roger Davis and Tinashe as Mimi Marquez in RENT airing Sunday, Jan. 27 (8:00-11:00 PM ET LIVE/PT TAPE-DELAYED) on FOX. "A visit to the hospital confirmed that Brennin Hunt, our Roger, has broken his foot and will be unable to perform tonight".
A few hours prior to the broadcast, the network released a statement. He is playing the part in "Rent" originated by Adam Pascal.
According to Variety, Hunt was injured ahead of the musical's final act.
Reporters from THR were present when the injury took place, revealing that the injury actually took place during the final commercial break, when the actor was not on stage.
"The experience of putting together this handsome new production of my brother's work, while emotional, has been truly joyous for all of us". It contains the memorable songs "Seasons of Love" and "Another Day". "Rent has always been about resilience and community".
Though it's dramatically sketchy and emotionally a little manipulative - that's opera, some might say - you'd need a pretty hard heart for none of "Rent" to work on you. "We can't wait for a new generation to experience Jonathan's legacy".
Another famous Broadway musical is coming to TV, so find out how to watch RENT online or live this Sunday, although FOX's version won't be exactly live.
