"'She's talking, she's doing very well, ' they said", Smith told Good Morning America.
"My legs started to shake".
Authorities say they are still puzzled as to why the suspect allegedly went to Barron to kidnap Jayme from the family home, where her parents were found dead, killed with a shotgun.
He also confirmed that investigators believe that Jayme was the target and that she was Patterson's primary reason for going to the Closs residence.
"She said that this person's name was Jake Patterson, 'he killed my parents and took me, '" Kristin Kasinskas said.
He added: 'She did not talk about why or how.
She said, 'I'm Jayme, ' the woman told CNN affiliate WCCO.
They gave no details on how she escaped except to say Patterson was not home at the time. "Believe me, so are we".
Patterson had worked for less than two days at a turkey processing plant where Closs' parents worked, but the sheriff said he did not have any contact with them. A Douglas County patrol sergeant took the suspect into custody after spotting a vehicle matching a description Jayme had given to authorities.
In a statement, attorneys Charles Glynn and Richard Jones said they awaited Jake Thomas Patterson's initial court appearance and the filing of charges against him on Monday.
Patterson, who was unemployed, remained largely an enigma Saturday.
It won't happen quickly, though, Bowers said, and people need to realize that Jayme will relive her trauma in different ways throughout her life - including if she forms romantic relationships or has children of her own.
"She was crying when I first met her, but once I grabbed hold of her and held her as she walked, then she was calm", she said.
Jayme Closs, 13, was missing after her parents were found dead in their home in Barron, Wisconsin, on October 15, 2018. As an example, Fitzgerald has said Patterson shaved his head to avoid leaving any hair as evidence during the assault.
Investigators are trying to determine how Jayme escaped from Patterson's home, Fitzgerald said. Property records show that the cabin belonged to Patterson's father. He quit the next day, saying he was moving, Mr Steve Lykken said. Police said Patterson had ties to Barron but did not elaborate.
He may have worked at another business in Barron but that hasn't been confirmed, the sheriff said.
The superintendent of the local school district, Jean Serum, said Patterson was a nice kid who was a member of his high school's quiz bowl team. "And to chase after that is, it's, I mean, she'll never go back to that". "I'm lost", Ms Nutter, a social worker, told the Associated Press. Kasinskas told the Star Tribune that she didn't even realize he was her neighbor.
Jayme spent Thursday night in hospital but has since been released. "God has answered those prayers". The 13-year-old was missing when police arrived, leading to an intense manhunt that ended when she was found alive Thursday about 70 miles from her home. Smart was found nine months after her disappearance while walking with her kidnappers in a Salt Lake City suburb by people who recognized the couple from media reports.
