The wheelbase is now longer by 30mm while the track is wider too - 63mm more up front and 55mm more at the rear. Styling-wise, the new auto is less radically revised compared to its hatch sibling, and the general shape and lines makes it somewhat of a scaled-down CLS. Mercedes even claims that new CLA is one of the most engaging compact vehicle lineup till date.

Despite the lead and overall increase in volumes, albeit marginal, Mercedes' financial performance is an indicator of the challenges faced by German automaker. The largest tyre and wheel combination available will be 225/40 R19 wrapped over 19-inch wheels.

If a driver reaches over towards the unoccupied front passenger seat in the dark, it will be illuminated automatically.
New for the CLA is what Mercedes-Benz calls the Interior Assistant, which is best described as a gesture control system, allowing the driver to turn on various systems with a simple motion of the hand.
Like the A-Class hatch, the CLA can be equipped with a comprehensive suite of active safety features to match the latest S-Class limousine with automated emergency braking and lane keeping assistance as standard on every model, while adaptive cruise control that is linked to Global Positioning System sat nav data and has semi-autonomous functionality in heavy traffic, as well as multi beam LED headlights, will also available. Under the hood of the CLA 250 is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four that is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The rest of the engine lineup is expected to follow the same as of the A-Class.
But as with the previous version of the CLA, a shooting brake option is likely to be offered and revealed later this year. The new CLA has also been honed in the wind tunnel to have a drag coefficient of 0.23, very close to the previous car's 0.22 Cd, despite a larger frontal area. One final note: the Edition 1 model shown in the photos is not now planned for sale in the U.S.
