Yet another successful partnership that Khan established, both as a screenplay and dialogue writer, was with actor Jeetendra.
Textiles Minister Smriti Irani wrote, "If you were a late 80s-90s kid who watched Hindi films, chances are you encountered the magic of Kader Khan". He knows the colloquial idiom. I learnt the nuances of comedy from him because I had entered films with the idea of being only an actress. When Manmohan Desai made a decision to produce his "Amar Akbar Anthony", he chose Kader Khan again for the dialogue.
As a screenwriter, Kader Khan frequently collaborated with Manmohan Desai and Prakash Mehra. The camps were demarcated and loyalties fixed; other than Amitabh Bachchan, only Kader Khan could inhabit both. Before entering the film industry in the early 1970s, he taught at MH Saboo Siddik College of Engineering, Mumbai as a professor of Civil Engineering. After that film in 1973, Khan went on to work in over 300 films, spanning several decades.
Khan is survived by his sons Sarfaraz, also an actor, and Shahnawaz and his wife Azra. He was nearly always the narrator as well in these films thanks to his reverb-sound smooth voice.
His son Sarfaraz confirmed the actor's death to news outlets in India, saying he passed away on New Year's Eve in Canada but not specifying where.
"Kader Khan was financially very secure but very lonely because when he was sick, not many people visited him or spent time with him", Mr Kapoor said.
All the while, Khan was also acting in a variety of films.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Shakti Kapoor shared his sorrow about the sad demise of Kader Khan. But the front-benchers couldn't get enough of it. He would be occasionally seen on TV remembering the old days and sometimes outing bitter outbursts against old colleagues including Amitabh Bachchan whom he blamed for transforming into a man Kader Khan didn't recognise. I have worked with him in so many films. You were an actor par excellence but an equally brilliant writer.
