US slams Tu-160 strategic bombers’ arrival

Russia sends bombers to Venezuela, calls U.S. reaction "undiplomatic"

"The Russian and Venezuelan people should see this for what it is: two corrupt governments squandering public funds, and squelching liberty and freedom while their people suffer", Pompeo said via Twitter.

The TU-160 supersonic bombers, known as "White Swans" by Russian pilots, landed at Maiquetia airport near capital Caracas on Monday after covering more than 10,000 km (6,200 miles), the Russian and Venezuelan governments said.

U.S. Secretary of state Mike Pompeo reacted negatively to the supply of Russian bombers Tu-160 to Venezuela.

President Donald Trump requested $639billion on defence spending from Congress for the 2018 financial year. Meanwhile, a key Department of Defense official said last week that a budget under $733 billion by 2020 would put the military at risk.

Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the USA has no business criticizing the money being spent on the drills, saying just half of the US defense budget could feed all of Africa. Nevertheless, rough estimates have put Africa's total GDP at around $2.75 trillion.

Russian Federation sent to Venezuela two strategic missile Tu-160 heavy military transport aircraft an-124 and long-haul aircraft Il-62 Air and space forces (VKS). Russian Federation has long accused the USA of attempting to encroach on its backyard through the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) as well as intending to disrupt the global balance of power-accusations Washington also levies at Moscow.

Russian Federation sent about 100 pilots and other personnel along with two Tupolev-160 bombers and two other aircraft to Caracas - generating tensions with the USA and Colombia, countries Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro regularly accuses of plotting to assassinate him.

The relationship between the Trump administration and Venezuela, however, is still fraught.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has commented on Pompeo's remarks by calling them unacceptable and absolutely unprofessional.

"If you want to cooperate, lift your sanctions against Venezuela".
