Ms. Nauert joined the administration in April 2017, with no foreign policy experience and she played a relatively low-key role owing to a reportedly strained relationship with former Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson.
He said that Haley has done a great job in the role, and he believes Nauert is "a very good choice in the same tradition".
Nauert, 48, has been back and forth between her husband and two sons in NY and her job in Washington, D.C.
"The personal dimension is pretty important and you're dealing with some pretty tough customers, the Russians in particular", said Gowan.
Like Haley, a former SC governor, Nauert would come to the job with little experience in diplomacy. The former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations once said that if you lopped off the top 10 floors of the organisation's NY headquarters, it would make no difference.
President Trump has picked Heather Nauert, the State Department's spokeswoman, as the next ambassador to the United Nations.
Before working for Fox, she was a network correspondent for ABC News.
She will need confirmation by the Senate, where Trump's Republican Party enjoys a majority.
"I don't think Haley is thinking about running in 2020". Since mid-October, she had rarely been seen by reporters at the State Department as Palladino took the lead.
Trump has long praised Fox News, especially the "Fox & Friends" program.
"If I were the State Department's spokesperson, on an official trip to learn more about the dark, dubious circumstances surrounding the disappearance of a USA resident, I probably would have skipped the tourist-in-Riyadh photos". Haley has served almost two years in the post. "If confirmed, I look forward to continuing the outstanding job Ambassador Haley has done representing your administration and the American people".
