Dorothy Bruns, 44, of Staten Island, told investigators she suffered multiple sclerosis and had a seizure before running the red light on March 5. On Tuesday, eight months after the accident, the New York Police Department confirmed Bruns was found dead from an apparent suicide.

Earlier this year, Bruns had been indicted by a grand jury on charges of manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and assault.

Prosecutors say doctors had told Bruns not to drive after she had a previous medical episode while behind the wheel.

She was facing 15 years behind bars and was due in court when she killed herself. Her auto drove forward, killing Ruthie Ann Blumenstein's 4-year-old daughter and the 1-year-old son of another parent.

On March 5, Bruns was behind the wheel of her auto when she fatally hit two children in a Brooklyn crosswalk and caused a woman to lose her unborn child.

She was 39 weeks pregnant. She lost her unborn baby. A one-year-old child was also killed in the horrific crash.

Horrifying video captured at the scene shows the white vehicle rolling into the crosswalk as the unsuspecting pedestrians are struck.

Miles is best known for her Tony Award-winning performance as Lady Thiang in the revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's The King and I. And in September 2017, she struck a pedestrian in Long Island City, after which the NYPD reportedly failed to investigate the incident.

"The pain suffered by Ruthie and Jonathan is almost impossible to fathom", their lawyer Ben Rabinowitz told the New York Daily News at the time. Bruns came up negative for possible drug or alcohol traces.
