People inside Hot Yoga Tallahassee appeared to have fought Scott Paul Beierle, a 40-year-old man from Deltona, Florida, and tried to save themselves and others, Chief of Police Michael DeLeo said.
Detectives were looking for any links between the gunman and the victims, he said.
Quick said he grabbed Beierle's gun after it jammed and hit him.
Two people have been killed in a shooting spree that broke out at a yoga studio in Tallahassee, Florida. Online records show Binkley was from Atlanta.

Beierle also spoke of another series of women who turned down his invitation to a concert, acting as though he were entitled to romantic attention.
There is no word on a motive for the shooting.
Authorities say there are still two victims in the hospital who are in stable condition and three more have been released from the hospital.

Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum paused campaign for state governor and returned to the city upon hearing the news.
"No act of gun violence is acceptable", Gillum tweeted.
Ron DeSantis, the Republican nominee for Florida governor, addressed the shooting on Twitter on Friday night, calling it "heartbreaking".
Dozens of yoga practitioners gathered on Saturday morning for an open-air session in front of the State Capitol.
Lohbeck also said this was the biggest Yoga for a Cause event she has ever held.
In a statement posted to its Facebook page, the Delta Delta Delta sorority called Binkley a "beloved sister".
