But now, we actually have an official look at her in costume, and the title of the CW's best superhero look might just have a new owner.
"Elseworlds" begins Sunday, Dec. 9, with The Flash at 8 p.m.; continues Monday, Dec. 10, at 8 p.m. with Arrow; and concludes the following night at 8 p.m. with Supergirl. Her black and red suit, designed by four-time Academy Award victor Colleen Atwood, also nods to the character's previous iterations with a classically cut cape with ruby red shading.
To celebrate, The CW released the first photo of Rose in full costume as the superhero. But don't call her a hero yet.
Rose was announced as the new Batwoman in August to both celebration and some social media backlash.
The three-night crossover kicks off with "The Flash" on December 5, but a spinoff series starring Rose has already been eyed by the network with a potential premiere date in 2019. Decades later, she was rebooted as Kate Kane, an openly lesbian superhero.
Rose's Batwoman will be different from previous versions in popular culture, as her iteration will be an out lesbian.
Ruby Rose is answering the Bat-Signal, and she looks wonderful doing it. I'm also an emotional wreck because this is a childhood dream. "This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on TV and felt alone and different".
Ruby Rose is taking on the role of Kate Kane, who'll debut in the three-part event between Supergirl, Arrow, and The Flash (Legends of Tomorrow is sitting this one out) before her own spin-off potentially launches next year (The CW have ordered a pilot episode).
