"Meeting those children and understanding their different way of life is why I wanted to travel here", she said. The people love her, and she loves them!

United States First Lady Melania Trump is expected to land in Kenya on Thursday in her ongoing Africa tour that began on Tuesday in Ghana, West Africa.

The convoy of the US First Lady however passed by without any incident and Mrs Trump might have seen the protests.

She added: "My husband and I appreciate all that you're doing to serve our country". "I was heartened to spend time with the students, and was honored to donate school supplies and soccer balls", she said.

Melania Trump spent Thursday in southern Africa promoting the work of a USA global development agency whose funding President Donald Trump has twice proposed slashing by almost a third.

"They are simply taking advantage of their First Lady's high profile visit in Malawi to speak out so that the media here takes their message along as well", he said.

Llamas, who is weekend anchor of "World News Tonight", is among the reporters following the first lady on her first solo overseas trip.

"She's shining a light on some of the great things the USA is doing in Malawi and Africa".

The US First Lady will then visit the US Embassy in Nairobi wrapping up the only closed-door engagements on her Kenyan visit.

The event was meant to "highlight friendly U.S. -Malawi relations" and the pair's "shared interest in helping children and, in particular, helping girls in school", according to the White House.
