After a second-straight season of going undefeated in the month of October, the Iowa State football team is back in the College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings. Both of those years, Alabama and Clemson started in the top four and never slipped out. Auburn (2014), LSU (2015) and Notre Dame (2017) were the other teams to start in the committee's top four, but wind up not even making a New Year's Six bowl.

Clemson University's second-ranked football team is steamrolling conference opponents left and right ... turning what used to be competitive rivalries into the sort of lopsided blowouts typically reserved for cupcake weekends.

What's the initial pecking order of the one-loss Power 5 teams?

"If they keep winning, they'll be in the Big Ten Championship, so they control their own destiny". West Virginia 14. Penn State 15.

No. 6 Georgia at No. 9 Kentucky - Just a little bit.

The rankings, announced Tuesday on ESPN, name the four teams now selected to participated in the postseason for the national championship. Unmentioned potential landmines remain in conference play for all of them.

Going forward, these rankings will be produced each Tuesday night until the conclusion of the season, and you better believe that we will be keeping you updated every step of the way. But what, if anything, can be learned from the first four years of CFP rankings?

Alabama, Clemson, LSU and Notre Dame are the top four teams in the first College Football Playoff rankings of the season. Georgia 6. MI 7. No. 10 is frankly where Ohio State deserves to be after what happened at Purdue, but it's insightful to see its starting point. The loss is the worst at Doak Campbell Stadium and ties Florida State's worst margin of defeat, matching a 49-point loss to Florida in 1973.

Akers said his team's 38-17 win over Wake Forest last week was a breakthrough for him after a two-touchdown performance - one of them on a 58-yard burst. The UNC game was cancelled by Hurricane Florence, FAU has disappointed at 3-5 and Pitt is just 4-4. It's also the first time Florida State has lost four consecutive games to an ACC program (Miami previously achieved that feat before joining the league). If you're an OU fan, you actually want Alabama to simply run the table. The Crimson Tide travel to No. 5 LSU (7-1, 4-1). And then they need some help.
