They are in the market for a running back, have cap room and have shown their willingness to bring back former players in the past.

The Eagles have reached out to the Bills about a possible trade for running back LeSean McCoy, according to WIVB-TV in Buffalo.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that there is interest in a homecoming for McCoy, but it remains to be seen if the two sides can make a deal work.

The Eagles now have just over $4.3 million in cap space.

It helped that the Eagles had already been linked to Bell, in large part because of a late-September report from Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports. This year he's been banged up on a bad Bills team, rushing for just 170 yards in four games.

In reporting Monday that the Eagles restructured the contract of defensive tackle Fletcher Cox, ESPN's Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen cited sources in emphasizing that the team "will not use the added salary-cap space to trade for [Bell]". Of the 11 running backs with over 500 carries during that time, only Ezekiel Elliott and LeSean McCoy have run for a higher average.

Thirty-five year old Darren Sproles figured prominently in the opener, but hasn't played since due to a hamstring injury.

Adding either Johnson or Bell would take a serious hit to the Eagles payroll this year and beyond.
