‘Sexually violent predator’ Bill Cosby sentenced to 3-10 years in prison

Bill Cosby's sentencing hearing expected to wrap up today

Bill Cosby deemed a sexually violent predator, judge rules

Cosby's lawyers had fought the "sexually violent predator" designation, arguing that Pennsylvania's sex-offender law remains unconstitutional and that he is no threat to the public at his age. Cosby was 66, Constand was 30.

Cosby assaulted Constand, who once considered him a mentor, at his suburban Philadelphia home in 2004. She went to police a year later, only to have a prosecutor turn down the case.

Constand was the operations manager for Temple University's women's basketball program in the early '00s, and she said that Cosby invited her to his house under the pretense of advancing her career.

Constand, who is now a massage therapist living in Canada, testified during the trial in April and in an earlier trial past year that ended with a hung jury that she had become friends with Cosby, and viewed him as a mentor. Prosecutors originally wanted the longer sentence, but it was reduced after they combined his three counts of aggravated indecent assault into one sentence. "The victims cannot be unraped, all we can do is hold the perpetrators responsible".

She said she lived alone with her two dogs and had trouble trusting people.

The hearing is set to conclude Tuesday after testimony from a defense psychologist who believes Cosby is no longer a danger, given his age, and should not be branded a "sexually violent predator".

Cosby is now free on US$1-million bail until he's sentenced, which is expected to happen Tuesday.

"What is going on in Washington today with Judge Kavanaugh is part of that sex war that Judge O'Neill along with his wife are part of", Wyatt said.

On Tuesday, Wyatt, the publicist, alleged that three psychologists who testified in the trial were seeking to "make money off of accusing black men of being sexual predators".

The actor will learn later Tuesday whether he'll be sent to the slammer for the 2004 sexual assault of Andrea Constand.

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele said the 81-year-old used his fame and fortune to "hide his true self and hide his crimes", intimidating his victims into keeping them silent for decades. So it's taken a long time to get there.

"He shows no remorse whatsoever".

He also added, weirdly, that one "is a practitioner of mindfulness", which "is an eastern-inspired practice that is controversial in the field of psychology." Um.

After testifying for several hours at two trials, the first of which ended in a hung jury, Constand spoke in court Monday for just two minutes.

For years, a nondisclosure agreement kept Constand and her family silent; the Cosby criminal trial provided her with an opportunity to finally reveal what took place almost 15 years ago.
