Rain delays BMW Championship, and possibly Furyks last Ryder Cup pick

Tony Finau named to United States' Ryder Cup team, a first for a native Utahn

Finau earns final USA wild card selection for Ryder Cup

The 28-year-old has not won on the PGA Tour, but had top-10s at three majors this year, and has played well during the current FedExCup playoffs.

Finau will be one of three Ryder Cup rookies, along with Bryson DeChambeau and Justin Thomas.

Finau's stand-out performances in high-pressure and high-profile tournaments will put him in great stead for the pressure pit that is the Ryder Cup. I'm pretty easy to play with. Monday's announcement then was pushed back several hours as Finau (who tied for eighth place) and the rest of the field completed the weather-delayed BMW Championship near Philadelphia.

The pick was set up to be made after the finish of the BMW Championship, but wet weather had caused the final round of the tournament to be pushed into Monday.

His appeal is that he makes a lot of birdies, which is critical in match play.

Eight automatic qualifiers were confirmed after the US PGA Championship, so the start of the FedEx Cup play-offs was effectively an audition.

The matches are September 28-30 outside Paris.

Eight other USA players made the roster after last month's PGA Championship after a two-year qualifying period - Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Patrick Reed, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Webb Simpson, Rickie Fowler and Bubba Watson.

That doesn't mean as much in foursomes and fourballs, on a European course before the singing and chanting of Europeans fans.

Team Europe captain Thomas Bjorn finished his captain's picks, too, selecting Paul Casey, Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter and Henrik Stenson.

"Play has been suspended for the day", read an update from the PGA Tour.

But he has always been contenting, and we are sure he will win on tour before long.
