"Our Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday is another way we are providing relief to Wisconsin's hardworking families", said Governor Walker. That's because shoppers went shopping over the weekend in droves.

In both states, you will not pay state sales tax on back-to-school gear.

This year's holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. Aug 3 and ends at 11:59 p.m. August 5.

Ohioans will be getting a short break when it comes to paying taxes on certain items.

Each item of clothing must cost less than $75. For example, if a retailer sells a computer during the sales tax holiday for $2,000 and also charges $55 to deliver the computer, then the entire charge of $2,055 is exempt from the sales or use tax. "It's also big because it's right before fair, so everybody is wanting to rush in and get their back to school shopping finished".

Items used in a trade or business are not exempt. Coupons and discounts available for items under the tax-free list may still be applied to reduce the item's sales price.

The first time the sales tax holiday occurred in 2015 an extra $4.7 million in consumption was generated, along with saving consumers approximately $3.3 million, according to a study produced by the University of Cincinnati.
