World Cup victor Paul Pogba's third minute penalty and a late goal from Luke Shaw gave Manchester United a 2-1 win over Leicester City at Old Trafford in the opening game of the Premier League season on Friday.

"The target is the Leicester match", said the United manager. The Foxes spent the summer upgrading their defense, signing Jonny Evans and Ricardo Pereira to shore up a defense that allowed 60 goals last season, the fifth most in the Premier League.

Mourinho, who has continously complained about the lack of new signings at Old Trafford, said Pogba "is happy, proud and ready to work" at Manchester United.

"That's football management. I think football is changing and managers should be called head coaches".

"You think of Alderweireld, which to me seemed like a certainty that Manchester United would sign Alderweireld", he said on Sky Sports. "I didn't have any pre-season games, I came back on Monday so it was very hard for the legs".

"I enjoy the last season, the fight to finish where we finished and to manage the best position in five or six years. We must get used to teams who have players of the same quality that we have", he said. "Forget the name, the history, the shirt, every match is hard".

Having led France to World Cup glory only a few weeks ago, the 25-year-old wasn't expected to feature for United until gameweek two at the earliest.

Mourinho made a decision to name Pogba as captain in the absence of Antonio Valencia as United try to convince the 25-year-old midfielder that his long-term future lies at Old Trafford.

'Paul was fantastic. His contribution was incredible.

Let us know your thoughts in the comments. "I haven't won the Premier League, I haven't won the Champions League, I haven't won the European Championship so there are more to win".

Pogba's penalty two minutes was, what I guess you can say, weird?

He added: "The thinking is he is a very good penalty taker and likes the responsibility of it and he is first choice".

"I mean, Manchester United, we have to show on the pitch, we have to play well, we have to be focused and we need people to trust us".

"[Kasper] Schmeichel is very good on pens but no chance".
