Modric's contributions were recognised with the prestigious Golden Ball award, crowning him the best player at the tournament in Russian Federation.

Despite the rumors gaining traction to the contrary, Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui is adamant that the La Liga giants will not lose either Luka Modric or Mateo Kovacic Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo report.

Club president Florentino Perez insists that any bidding suitors must meet Modric's astonishing £669million release clause with the European champions. "One of recent history's most important players has left".

"I think the president said it, I don't think there's much more to add", Lopetegui said.

Luka Modric is now 32 years old the Los Blancos are looking for a midfielder who can replace him in their starting line up.

Early rumours of Modric being linked with a transfer away from Real were initially given short shrift but that stance now appears to have softened with Inter continuing to show interest in a player who lit up the World Cup.

"I told him he was a player I'm passionate about, I love him and he knows it".

"I answered that the other day", Lopetegui told reporters when asked about Modric's future.

The Craotian turned up at Valdebebas this morning and after speaking to Real Madrid representatives has decided not to train, showing his unhappiness that the club are not letting him leave. If I have spoken with Modric, I speak with my players when I decide to, but it's private.
