Chelsea have made the surprising announcement that Spanish attacker Pedro has signed a contract extension with the Chelsea-based club.

Chelsea are in the season curtain-raiser after the FA Cup win in Conte's final match as head coach.

"I think David will be very important for the team, to support me".

The Italian was less sure about the future of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois who is also on the radar of Real Madrid. "I can't say much about it now either".

The 29-year-old has been linked with Manchester United and Real Madrid in the transfer window. "I think we can do very good things together".

"I played against City in November last season, in their best moment of the season".

Maurizio Sarri commented on the situation in his press conference ahead of Chelsea's clash with Manchester City at Wembley on Sunday. Napoli was riding high in Serie A last season when it lost a pair of pulsating Champions League encounters against City - 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium before going down 4-2 at Stadio San Paolo.

"In this moment it's a very hard match", Sarri said.

Sarri, who has not won a trophy in his career, said: "The match for us is very hard for one reason: they have worked all together for two years". Not at the top level now but we have to try to have a good performance and a good result.

"It's important for me to continue with Chelsea, I am comfortable here and want to win new titles and trophies", he told Chelsea's website. I think everybody wants to be better than the past year. "I spoke about positions but no specifics - no names - so I don't know". "But maybe only a player".

Chelsea will still be without Eden Hazard, their attacker-in-chief who is yet to return to London from his post-World Cup break.
