As part of the newly announced partnership, MGM Resorts will have access to official National Basketball Association and WNBA data and branding, though on a non-exclusive basis.

Silver has been more open to the concept of legalized gambling on sports than the other commissioners. The NBA's top exec has always been an advocate for legalized sports betting; back in 2014, Silver wrote an editorial in the New York Times in which he encouraged the federal government to allow states to offer a highly regulated form of legitimate wagering, one that would include minimum-age verification and the monitoring of any unusual activity in the betting lines that might indicate the outcome of a game was being manipulated by outside interests.

The new partnership with GVC Holdings will offer access to USA land-based and "online sports betting, online real money and free-to-play casino gaming, major tournament and online poker, and other similar future interactive businesses", according to a press release.

MGM owns the WNBA's Las Vegas Aces and is a partner in the NBA Summer League.

CEO of GVC Kenny Alexander has also shared his thoughts on the deal, noting that MGM is a world leader in the entertainment and gaming businesses, operating high quality brands and boasting unparalleled sports connectivity.

This has already been a major week for MGM on sports betting, as it's the third deal it announced in the space of two days.

Tuesday's announcement caps off a monster week for MGM, which announced just Monday that they had signed deals with GVC Holdings, owners of the UK's famous Ladbrokes Coral, and Boyd Gaming.
