All of the world's top-50 players are set to compete at the World Golf Championships (WGC)-Bridgestone Invitational this week with eight-time champion Tiger Woods among those vying for glory.

The sport's most popular golfer appeared to pick up right where he left off.

Day picked up birdies at the 11th and 13th and has avoided dropping a shot through his opening 10 holes to sit one back of Woods at two under.

Yeah, he's still got it. "I use it as a week to try and work on my game and if I get myself into contention, then that's just a bonus", said McIlroy.

He has been paired with former world number one Jason Day of Australia for the first two rounds.

"When I go to tournaments, it's about myself now, how I perform and try to play my best", said Kiradech.

Making his first start since threatening to claim a 15th major title in the Open at Carnoustie, Woods carded an opening 66 at Firestone Country Club, his lowest score in the first round of a PGA Tour event since August 2015.

"This event has been very special to me over the years".

That was the last time Woods played in a World Golf Championship event - tournaments he has won 18 times.

"It's always been one of my favorite golf courses on the entire Tour and it's unfortunate that it is leaving", Woods said prior to a practice round on Wednesday.

It is the first time since the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March that Woods has been closer than a tie for 29th after the first round - a span of eight tournaments.

There is no confirmation yet whether Rose - the 2013 U.S. Open victor - will be fit to play in the US PGA Championship next weekend.

"I had several good days being at home".

"This place is like Augusta for him".

"The way I made a couple mistakes there at 11 and 12 ended up costing me a chance of winning the tournament".

He has also committed to the first two FedEx Cup playoff events later this month and is all but a lock to qualify for the third - meaning three straight weeks of competition for the first time in more than five years. I had a great chance at Valspar early in the year, and even a week ago I had a great shot at it. "It takes a little while to get going".

In a season that also included a victory on the European Tour s BMW Championship, Molinari has risen to a career-high sixth in the world - and reassessed his own abilities.
