Conor McGregor has confirmed his return to the UFC with a fight against hated rival Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Nurmagomedov (26-0), who wasn't actually on the bus, won the vacant lightweight belt by beating Al Iaquinta in Brooklyn two days after McGregor's attack, which injured uninvolved fighters Michael Chiesa and Ray Borg.

Negotiations for this bout dragged on for many weeks while McGregor argued a highly lucrative deal, even demanding an ownership stake in the UFC in exchange for returning to the cage, and Nurmagomedov also asked for a hefty raise.

That fact has led many to wonder when the most-anticipated fight in all of mixed martial arts will be announced.

"If it's a money fight, pay me the money", Nurmagomedov said. When the UFC stripped McGregor of his belt Dana White said he would be the first to challenge for the title back when he was ready to return.

The announcement was made during the UFC's 25th anniversary press conference where the fighting promotion laid out the events for the rest of 2018.

UFC lightweight Dustin Poirier chats with Brett Okamoto about the decision of waiting on a potential title shot in favor of taking on Nate Diaz at UFC 230 in November at Madison Square Garden.

McGregor has been absent from the sport for two years.

This is going to be one hell of a fight!

The bout, which will take place at UFC 229, is already being talked about as one of the fights of the year and promotional video for the fight has broken the internet in predictable style. In the interim, Khabib Nurmagomedov has taken the lightweight division by storm.
