Als QB Adams sounds off on 'We want Johnny' chants

Report Manziel

It looks like Johnny Manziel's decision to take his football talent to Canada is finally about to pay off.

Manziel, a first-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2014, appeared in 15 National Football League games (eight starts) before being released.

Johnny Manziel will make his CFL debut against his former team.

Manziel was traded to the Montreal Alouettes earlier this season. Vernon Adams completed 15 of 28 passes for 217 yards and an interception to go along with a team-high 72 rushing yards and a touchdown versus the Eskimos. Manziel, however, did not appear in a regular season game with Hamilton and he was traded to the Montreal Alouettes earlier this month.

"We all knew he wasn't coming just to sit", Adams said.

"It's definitely going to be a little weird playing against those guys but at the end of the day it's business and I'm in a new home".

Mike Sherman, head coach of the CFL's Montreal Alouettes, told Canadian reporters Tuesday that Manziel will make his first start with the team Friday night against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He admitted that the "We want Johnny" chants hurt him.

"I know that's not easy because I've been on the other side of it multiple times".

"We obviously traded for John for a specific reason", said Sherman. During two brief preseason appearances with Hamilton, Manziel wasn't bad, as he completed 21 of 31 passes for 168 yards and a touchdown, while rushing six times for 19 yards. I have nothing more to say or to give to the supporters of Montreal. Montreal is 1-5 and they've been practically lifeless on offence this season.

Manziel was selected 22nd overall by the Browns in the 2014 NFL Draft, but his career was derailed by off-field issues.

"I felt like the thing I've been reps", Manziel said.
