Updates about all delays and reasons behind them were being passed out to the media though a window of a washroom inside the court complex which was left slightly ajar

Section 144 to be imposed at Lahore airport before Sharif's arrival

The accountability court Islamabad on Friday last handed down 10 and 7 years rigorous imprisonment to Sharif and Maryam respectively in the Avenfield properties corruption case filed by the NAB.

An anti-graft court in Pakistan today adjourned the hearing in a corruption case against convicted former prime minister Nawaz Sharif after the defence lawyer urged the judge to recuse himself from the case.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hamza Shahbaz said on Monday that the accountability process against the Sharif family was a hard time but the party stands united while facing this trouble.

Both Nawaz Sharif and his daughter are now in London to look after Mr Sharif's wife, Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, who is suffering from throat cancer and has been on ventilator since June 14 after a cardiac arrest.

While they will not face any difficulty in coming to Pakistan, they are expected to be arrested during the immigration process at the airport as per standard procedure for all those placed on ECL. "PML-N workers from across the country will gather in Lahore to welcome their leaders", she said.

Earlier, while talking to the media, Maryam Nawaz had said that Nawaz Sharif's decision to return to serve his sentence will rewrite history.

Mr Sharif has said that he is not afraid of going to jail.

On account of serious differences among the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz senior leaders in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the party leadership was not hopeful that party members and public would turn up in significant numbers at the Islamabad International Airport on Friday to welcome Sharif and his daughter, which is why the venue was changed to Lahore, it is learnt from well-placed party sources.

Sharif's son-in-law Capt (retd.) M Safdar who has been given one-year jail term for not cooperating with NAB, and aiding and abetting Sharif and Maryam has been arrested and sent to Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi.
