LaVar Ball is confident in the Lakers this season after LeBron James made the decision to move to Los Angeles and play with Lonzo Ball and company.
While the Lakers could opt to pass on dealing for Leonard in order to sign him in 2019 as a free agent, there are increasing reports that Leonard may be open to signing with the Los Angeles Clippers as an alternative to joining LeBron and the Lakers.
Even more surprising: James was into it.
LaVar Ball also said Lonzo wouldn't play off the ball with James playing point forward as he did in Cleveland past year, and emphasized how his son's stature (at six-foot-six) and unselfish style fit better with LeBron's game than former teammate Kyrie Irving. The Lakers' 35 victories last year were their best performance during five years without a postseason game for a team that had never missed the playoffs more than two seasons in a row.
Becoming a basketball superstar is one thing, and nobody is bigger than James after 15 prolific NBA seasons and three championships. "At least he didn't wait until the end like last time".
What Johnson pitched to James was a team stocked with tough-minded playmakers like Stephenson and Rondo who could free up James to finish in the lanes and from the post, rather than having to create the lion's share of the offense himself. Leonard only has one year left on his current deal, but the Spurs aren't about to let that get in the way of them wanting as much as possible in return. You think he's amped up and wants to join LeBron now?
LeBron James #23 of the Cleveland Cavaliers stands on the court during their game against the Golden State Warriors at ORACLE Arena on January 16, 2017 in Oakland, California. James played a major role in recruiting Bosh and Ray Allen. Some Clevelanders said they hoped it would remain as a tribute to James' years with the Cavs.
Given Ball's eagerness to get into high-profile feuds, it's probably worth noting that he named three Lakers but omitted Kobe Bryant, who is considered by numerous team's fans as the greatest player in its storied history. Keep in mind, James signed a four-year deal in Los Angeles. He played in all 82 regular-season games and then somehow carried a team that underwent several transformations to a fourth straight conference title and match-up against the Warriors.
