George Clooney injured in scooter accident in Italy

The US actor, 57, was said to be riding his motorbike at Costa Corallina, Puntaldia, when he collided with a Mercedes vehicle on Tuesday morning, according to TGR Rai Sardegna. Private Mediaset, citing gossip magazine Chi, said the accident occurred near Costa Corallina, in the province of Olbia.

"A auto did not respect the right of way and hit him", the tweet read.

A photo from the Italian website La Nuova showed the car's windshield cracked. Clooney was on the island shooting his new series Catch-22.

Local daily La Nuova Sardegna said Clooney's injuries were not serious, but he was taken to the John Paul II hospital emergency room.

He was joined by wife Amal Clooney and it has been reported that the pair left the hospital together in a private auto.

Their outing comes amid reports that the pair are renting a attractive two-storey villa from Ezio Maria Simonelli, an accountant and man close to former Italian president Silvio Berlusconi.

Earlier that month George was seen driving around the island on a scooter with Amal clinging on tightly behind him.

In April, the legendary thespian announced he was cutting down his acting role in the Hulu production so he could focus on directing.

Italian media reports Clooney has already been released from the hospital.
