The Tehama County Lane Fire off Highway 36 in Paynes Creek has already spread to 3,000 acres and fire personnel report it is 20 percent contained as of Monday morning.

The Pawnee Fire is one of several large fires now burning in Northern California.

From there, fire crews from all over Lake County and Mendocino County reached the area from Spring Valley Road, Wolf Creek Road, and Quail Trail.

A fast-spreading wildfire threatened to cut off access to a rural community in northern California on Monday, forcing authorities to order the evacuation of about 3,000 residents.

"What's happened with the more warming climate is we get low humidity and higher winds and then when we get a fire that's worse than it's been in those 50 years", Steele said. An evacuation center has been established at Lower Lake High School, located at 9430 Lake Street. New Long Valley and Old Long Valley roads are closed at Highway 20.

Caltrans will also update road information on Facebook and Twitter immediately if the Pawnee Fire closes State Route 20.

"Right now, there's fire burning actively in the hills behind all these homes", Capt. Jordan Motta of Cal Fire said late Sunday.

The fire is centered about 70 miles north of California's Napa region, which was ravaged by the Thomas Fire in December, the largest recorded fire in the state's history.
