Trump, nevertheless, on nearly a daily basis says and writes things that are demonstrably untrue ― sometimes doing so even though he knows what he is saying is untrue.
Previous attempts to negotiate with Pyongyang have failed, but earlier this year North Korea demonstrated a new openness to diplomacy and held direct talks with Seoul.
However, it now appears that the U.S.is confident tings are going smoothly.
He is one of the few westerners to have met the North Korean leader on visits to the capital city Pyongyang. "Or we could have a failed summit that really takes us in the other direction".
"North Korea has previously confirmed to us its willingness to denuclearize, and we are eager to see if those words prove honest", Pompeo said.
He added that Trump's steel and aluminum tariffs were "unjust".
"We're prepared to take actions that will provide them sufficient certainty that they can be comfortable that denuclearisation isn't something that ends badly for them", he said.

Besides, Singapore's prime minister "wished Chairman Kim success for the US-DPRK Summit and expressed hope that the US-DPRK meeting will advance the prospects for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and the larger region". Delegates were outlining specific goals for what Trump and Kim should try to accomplish, and multiple scenarios for how key issues could be resolved. He credits his administration's "maximum pressure" campaign with getting Kim to the table.
