Trump's Tuesday morning tweetstorm about the probe escalated his rhetoric one step further, accusing Mueller's team of doing exactly what Trump's team is being investigated over: meddling in an election.
Republicans risk losing control of the House and possibly the Senate in this year's midterms as Democrats continue to feel emboldened by Trump's unpopularity. His recusal led to the appointment of Mueller by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

The president has seized on the fact that some of the lawyers working on the investigation have donated to Democratic candidates in the past.
Trump has frequently railed against the investigation, calling it a "witch hunt" and scrutinizing its cost. He compared the Muller investigation to former FBI Director James Comey's handling of the Hillary Clinton e-mail investigation, describing it as "meddling" in the election. Tuesday that the president would not agree to an interview until his lawyers had the opportunity to review documents about an Federal Bureau of Investigation informant inside the Trump campaign.
"Only if and when we find that this was handled appropriately and there's some evidence on which they can base this phony investigation, will we have him testify", Giuliani said on "Hannity" on Wednesday. By default, that effort would have helped Trump, but Mueller is looking into whether Trump associates played a more an active role.
Mr Trump's former campaign manager Paul Manafort is among 19 individuals and entities indicted by Mr Mueller.
Mueller was a REPUBLICAN when he received medals for his actions in the Vietnam war, while Trump won a "Yellow Heart" and "Bronze Bone Spur Star" for obtaining FIVE DEFERMENTS. His attorneys point out that he has not been charged with alleged crimes that relate to election interference by the Russians. "You got a group there, a lynching mob", he said. "This is not good for the American people, and the special counsel's office doesn't seem to have that, sort of, understanding that they're interfering with things that are much bigger than them or us". I'm not saying Mueller is illegitimate. "They went back home in tatters!"
Mike Lee says he's not going to defend Giuliani "because those aren't words that I would use".
