Clippers send Rivers to Wizards for Gortat

The Clippers traded Austin Rivers to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Marcin Gortat, and while the two players aren't exactly All-Stars, the implications involve much bigger names like DeAndre Jordan and (potentially) DeMarcus Cousins. But with Jerry West now involved, the team finally traded Austin. The 25-year-old averaged 15.1 points and 4.0 assists in 61 games (59 starts), missing the entire month of January with a right Achilles tendon injury.

Rivers played three-plus seasons for his father, Doc Rivers, with the Clippers. He recently opted into his $12.6 million contract for the 18-19 season.

Last season, Gortat averaged 25.3 minutes per game, his fewest since his third year in the National Basketball Association, as well as 8.4 points and 7.6 rebounds. Previous year he averaged 8.4 points and 7.6 rebounds in 25.3 minutes per game.

Though this trade is a bit of a head-scratcher that accomplishes little for either side, it's worth taking a look at what the Wizards and Clippers both get out of the deal.

Even if Jordan opts into the deal, the Clippers might look to trade him.
